Resources for Week 1 of Machine Learning Interviews in 3 Weeks, on O'Reilly
Helpful resources that I personally used to successfully land my very first ML job.
I run this online course on O’Reilly, aiming to help jobseekers land their machine learning jobs.
In week 1, here are some resources that I’ve shared separately.
How I went from a student to my first ML job
I’ve personally used all of the following resources while preparing for my first real job search in machine learning. All of the resources are free to download.
Machine learning algorithms and theory
Machine learning: Machine Learning for Humans by Vishal Maini and Samer Sabri (free resource)
Notes: Some of the information here might be slightly older, but it helped me bridge my econometrics/statistics knowledge into machine learning focused applications.
Statistics book I recommend: Elements of Statistical Learning by Trevor Hastle (free resource)
Notes: I didn’t 100% finish reading this one, but I think it’s a good beginner resource for statistics with a good level of theoretical foundation, and it covers most common techniques. Disclaimer: it’s a textbook so it’s going to be dense.
Programming
Python: Automate the Boring Stuff with Python (free resource)
Notes: I think this was how I wrote my first line of Python.
Resume
Resume template I used: AltaCV Template by LianTze Lim (free resource)
Notes: I took out the icons and graphics and focused on using the basic layout (my resume is text only).
Was this course useful for you? Share with your friends as we have another session in a few months in April, 2023! I will also share more resources related to my O’Reilly course and writing, on this Substack page, so stay tuned.
