Resources for Week 2 of Machine Learning Interviews in 3 Weeks, on O'Reilly
Helpful resources to land a machine learning job.
I run this online course on O’Reilly, aiming to help jobseekers land their machine learning jobs.
In week 2, here are some resources from the course. And here’s the link to resources mentioned in week 1.
Programming interviews
Pandas commands quick list: Link
I shared the story of how I would freeze up when it came to some pandas commands, even in interviews where googling commands was allowed. Reviewing some common commands helped me a lot in interviews!
Leetcode 75 list: Link
I mentioned in this week that it’s not mandatory to use the Leetcode platform, and some interviews won’t be on an online platform where you can run the code, e.g. writing on VSCode, even Google Docs (Google).
There are other lists of curated questions, such as Blind 75
ML and Data Science certifications, thoughts?
Should you take more online courses or master's to boost your resume for data science jobs? 3 scenarios and recommendations:
Here’s my advice on the topic: Link
ML theory and statistics resources
Data science interview questions: Link
The list covers common questions asked by Amazon, but from experience I’ve found that they are a good review list for other companies’ interviews on ML theory as well.
Statistics book I recommend: Elements of Statistical Learning by Trevor Hastle (free resource)
Notes: I didn’t 100% finish reading this one, but I think it’s a good beginner resource for statistics with a good level of theoretical foundation, and it covers most common techniques. Disclaimer: it’s a textbook so it’s going to be dense.
Behavioral interviews
STAR method: Link
I mentioned in the course this week, to make sure you don’t make your answer following STAR too rigidly, as it seems robotic to interviewers.
Do mention the challenges and how you overcame them, even if not asked in the question (hero’s journey). Combine that with STAR to make your answer stand out. Also make sure that your impact and contributions on the project is clear.
Was this course useful for you? Share with your friends as we have another session in a few months in April, 2023! I will also share more resources related to my O’Reilly course and writing, on this Substack page, so stay tuned.
